How I use Blender

My goal with Blender is to be able to come up with simple 3D models for games or game mods. I’m not set on style, if my models can load and move around I’ll be happy. I’m also interested in landscapes and animations for future video projects.

Since I don’t want to invest that much in a proper 3D setup, I got a cheap Wacom One tablet and no numpad. My mouse will be the Macbook Pro's Trackpad.

What about textures

At first I intended to use Procreate to draw on my 3D models, but I sold my iPad a few months ago.

Basic tools

Rotate, move around and zoom using the pencil

I setup my pencil so that one button is a middle click, then I can use my other hand to press Control or Shift to either zoom or move around. It works anywhere but the pencil will only be used in sculpting mode.

Edit the coordinates, rotation and scale of the selected object

Press g, r or s while the object is selected. Hold Control for fixed increments and Shift to increase precision. Coordinates keys xyz to use the object’s own coordinates system.

With Emulate Numpad turned on, pressing 0 will match the view with the camera, which can then be moved super precisely.

Pressing one of those keys and pressing Enter before doing anything will make these menus appear.

Can’t transform an object directly from the scene collection, use the dropdown menu right under it instead.

Right here.

Remove... everything

Press a then x.

Best initial coordinates and scale

I assume it doesn’t really matters because 3D models can just be rescaled anyway. Still, I think it makes more sense to work on a scale that at least approximately aligns with a real life instance of the object.
